France Aims to Boost International Student Enrollment to 500,000 by 2027

France wants to attract 500,000 foreign students by 2027, fearing a loss of attractiveness and to "accentuate its international influence," the Prime Minister said last Wednesday when presenting the 20 measures of an Immigration Plan.
The increase in tuition fees for foreigners this year has not been without consequences for France. It has seen a redirection of its students to other nations, more open to their integration.
In this regard, the French Prime Minister, the author of this controversial reform, now intends to change his tune by exceeding the current number of foreign students, estimated at nearly 325,000.
The press release reflects the alarming situation described by the Prime Minister: "Our country now runs the risk of falling behind in terms of international attractiveness".
According to the same source, "formerly the 5th largest host country in the world for international students, France now runs the risk of falling behind as other powers like China are deploying strategies to attract an ever-growing share of these students".
Note that this increase in numbers, targeted by Paris, is part of the "Welcome to France" strategy launched in 2018.
