Former Moroccan Soccer Stars Face Off in French Defamation Lawsuit

Former Moroccan international Houssine Kharja has summoned his former teammate and compatriot, Abdeslam Ouaddou, before the French courts for defamatory remarks against him and his wife. The French justice will rule in the coming weeks.
It will be before the court of Nice that the former Moroccan international Ouaddou will have to provide proof of certain remarks he made against his former teammate Kharja.
In January 2019, Abdeslam Ouaddou described Houssine Kharja as a "mangy dog capable of selling even his family, his country, his friends for his own interest", also accusing him "of inciting Moroccan players to join the Gulf countries and in particular Qatar".
In March 2019, the French site Vosges Matin published allegations by Ouaddou, this former Nancy defender insulting Kharja as a "vulture" and other more virulent bird names. A month later, in another interview with Le360, Ouaddou this time attacked the wife of Houssine Kharja, describing her as a prostitute.
The plaintiff is claiming 40,000 euros in damages. The judge of a court in Nice will hand down his decision in less than a month, on May 12.
