Former Israeli Diplomat Praises Morocco’s Muslim-Jewish Coexistence

Yehuda Lancry, former Israeli politician, ambassador to France and the UN, says he is proud of Morocco, his country of origin, of which he has fond memories.
"I was lucky to be born and raised in Morocco for 17 years before leaving for Israel. We had to leave because it was the ambition of my family," Yehuda Lancry told I24News. According to him, Morocco was and still is a country of coexistence between Muslims and Jews.
Although he has lived in Israel since 1960, the diplomat continues to maintain good relations with senior Moroccan officials. "I was lucky to have relationships with Moroccan ambassadors to the UN, in France as well as with Moroccan authorities whom I count among my friends," he said.
As a member of the Moroccan Jewish international community, he stated that the community has a deep respect for Morocco, its king and its people. He also stated that the Jewish community living in Morocco - estimated at 1,800 - enjoys all rights and equality thanks to the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
On another note, he addressed the issue of the normalization of relations between certain Gulf countries and Israel during the interview. "No Arab country, including the Gulf, has begun to normalize [its relations with Israel] as we hear and say," the former Israeli diplomat declared. According to him, there will be no normalization without the settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
