Former Imam’s Wedding Postponed Amid Expulsion Threat and Investigation

The mayor of Hautmont informed a former Muslim place of worship leader, threatened with expulsion, of the decision to postpone the celebration of his wedding initially scheduled for September 3, pending the end of an investigation.
"The prosecutor informed me on Thursday that the marriage was postponed pending the completion of an investigation. The entire process was carried out in conjunction with the state services and the Avesnes-sur-Helpe prosecutor’s office," said Mayor Stéphane Wilmotte in a statement cited by La Voix du Nord.
The man has been the subject of an expulsion procedure since August. He is a former leader of a prayer room closed in 2018 for "apology for acts of terrorism". The decision to suspend the marriage taken by the public prosecutor of Avesnes-sur-Helpe, Laurent Dumaine, is valid for one month.
