Former French Minister Rachida Dati Indicted in Renault-Nissan Corruption Probe

Rachida Dati, former Keeper of the Seals, current mayor (LR) of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, has been indicted for her consulting services to the former CEO of the Renault-Nissan alliance, Carlos Ghosn. She allegedly received 900,000 euros in fees between 2010 and 2012 while she was a lawyer and a member of the European Parliament.

Rachida Dati is under investigation for "passive corruption by a person invested with a public elective mandate within an international organization" and "receiving abuse of power," report Le Canard enchaîné and Franceinfo. Information confirmed by the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office. The former Keeper of the Seals is suspected of having received 900,000 euros in fees between 2010 and 2012 while she was a lawyer, also a member of the European Parliament.

This amount represents fees that had been paid to her by the Dutch subsidiary of Renault-Nissan, for her consulting activities with the former CEO of the Renault-Nissan alliance, Carlos Ghosn. The justice system is trying to determine whether Rachida Dati’s income corresponds to specific activities or whether it is a position of convenience that could have masked lobbying activities, which are prohibited for members of the European Parliament.

"As in 2019, they are trying to hinder my commitment to the elections that are coming!" reacted in an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien the former Minister of Justice, a potential candidate for the next presidential election, who has always contested the accusations. "Justice is becoming instrumentalized for an unacknowledged political battle," she denounced.
