Flanders Introduces 4-Year Vetting Period for Mosque Recognition and Funding

Religious communities, including mosques, wishing to be recognized and receive public funding in Flanders are now required to undergo a four-year examination period.
Ensuring greater transparency in their mode of financing and preventing foreign influences. This is the purpose of the tightening of the rules for the recognition of mosques in Flanders.
This is indeed what the new agreement of the Flemish Government provides, the details of which have already been made public, reports Belga.
Similarly, all schools wishing to be recognized and receive public funding will have to guarantee respect for human and fundamental rights.
According to this agreement, the Flemish Government wants to impose neutrality on all teachers and staff in provincial and Flemish Community schools. In other words, no ideological signs will be tolerated.
It has also been planned that the current protocol between the State Security and Flemish education will be strengthened. This implies that a particular emphasis will be placed on data sharing to combat radicalism.
Furthermore, the agreement aims to promote the Dutch language through its use. In fact, all subsidy agreements with associations or other structures will in the future contain clauses relating to the use of Dutch, in particular for their communication to the public.
