Firecracker Near Paris Mosque Prompts Security Response, Debunking Social Media Rumors

The perimeter of the Great Mosque of Paris was completely cordoned off on Friday. The origin of this security measure was the throwing of a firecracker "in a street overlooking the facade just before the exit of the worshippers".
Contrary to the rumors on social networks reporting several firecracker throws and which would have caused a panic movement, the intervention of the security forces and the evacuation of the place of worship, the Great Mosque of Paris has clarified the situation.
In a press release, it stated that it was rather a firecracker thrown "in a street overlooking the facade just before the exit of the worshippers". It is also specified that the security forces were present to "accompany the smooth running of the two services organized each Friday".
Furthermore, no injuries were reported and no arrests were made, it added.
