Fifth Suspect Arrested in Fatal Brussels Gang Shooting Investigation

The federal police have managed to arrest a fifth suspect who would be involved in the shooting that occurred on July 5th on Alfred Orban Street in Forest. Soufiane Ben Ali, 23, had died in this shooting in the context of a settling of scores.
S.R. is the fifth suspect arrested as part of the investigation. He is suspected of having played the role of driver for the alleged shooter on the night of the settling of scores, reports La Capitale. "We can inform you that S.R. was arrested on July 29th and provisionally released under conditions by the council chamber on September 2, 2020. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office appealed the decision of the council chamber. S.R remains in custody pending the decision of the indictment chamber," the Brussels public prosecutor’s office said.
The events had taken place on July 5th on Alfred Orban Street in Forest. Many shots were fired on Orban Square in Forest on the night of Saturday to Sunday around midnight, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office had said. The alleged murderer had shot at Soufiane, born in 1997 and two other men born in 2001 and 2003. The first died on the spot while the other two survived their injuries. The origin of this shooting was a settling of scores in the context of a drug trafficking.
To date, five people have been indicted for murder and attempted murder as perpetrators or co-perpetrators. Four others have been incarcerated. Among them, the alleged shooter who was on the run but has since surrendered to the authorities.
