New Ferry Service to Connect Marseille and Tangier Med in 2025

A new boat will serve the link between the ports of Marseille and Tangier Med as part of the Marhaba operation dedicated to Moroccans living abroad (MRE). It has just been officially announced by La Méridionale.
The ferry "Normandie" will be renamed "Massalia". La Méridionale announced on March 7 that this ship will serve the Marseille-Tangier Med route starting in June 2025. The name "Massalia", chosen by the company’s employees, evokes the Greek origin of Marseille.
This decision did not receive unanimous support. The Syndicat des travailleurs corses (STC) expressed its disagreement by letter, considering this choice as an "unacceptable affront" because it makes no reference to Corsica, reports Sud Ouest.
The "Massalia" will replace the "Pelagos", recently sold. This change will increase the transport capacity on the Marseille-Tangier Med line, as the "Massalia" has 156 more cabins than its predecessor.
The "Kalliste" will temporarily serve the route until the end of May 2025. Meanwhile, the "Normandie" will be replaced by the "Guillaume de Normandie" on the Caen-Ouistreham-Portsmouth line, operated by Brittany Ferries.
