Ferry Delays Spark False Rumors of Sète Port Closure Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The impact of the health crisis is noticeable in almost all sectors of activity, including maritime transport. Between the rumors of the closure of the port of Sète and the delays observed on the ferry links with Morocco, the newspaper Midi Libre has made a summary of the situation.
On Sunday, October 11, a ferry serving the Nador-Sète link, with 400 passengers, was suspected of Covid-19 cases, and therefore had not been authorized to dock at the Sète port. It was finally after several hours that the ferry was authorized to disembark in the port. In the wake of this, a rumor announced on social networks, on Thursday, October 15, the "imminent closure of the port of Sète by the prefectural authorities". The delays recorded on the links seemed to confirm the rumor, reports Midi Libre.
Although "all France-Morocco passenger links have been temporarily suspended on the orders of the French authorities, in order to allow a verification of details, as well as the development of the protocols applied, in full coherence with the evolution of the epidemiological situation", the rumor is not founded, declared the GNV company. The port authorities categorically denied this alleged closure, telling the same newspaper that it was "just rumors", that the port is "not closed at all" and that the link with Morocco is indeed confirmed.
The port of Sète confirms that there have indeed been "a lot of delays on certain crossings", adding "that once the finalization of the health protocol has been carried out, with the prefectural authorities, things should return to normal".
