Fatal Stabbing in Belgium: Drug Dispute Turns Deadly Between Brothers

Wednesday 30 October 2019, by Sylvanus

Ahmed Boujneh, 31, claims to have dealt a fatal knife blow to his brother, Aymen, by pure accident. Eyewitnesses to the scene give a different version of the facts.

Ahmed Boujneh, prosecuted for fratricide, faces 5 years in prison. The two brothers lived in a studio on the Rue de Hesbaye in Liège, and were involved in the cocaine and amphetamine trade, reports DH.be. The incident occurred on March 17, 2018. Several men had visited them that day.

According to Ahmed Boujneh’s version, it all started with a dispute between his brother and him. "We argued because my brother was using a lot of drugs with his friends. Then I went back to my bed. My brother came towards me. He punched me. We started grappling. The friends came to separate us. I sat in the living room," the detainee recounted.

However, the situation did not take long to complicate. "I bent down to cut the laces. My brother grabbed me by the neck, he told me never to insult him again. We started arguing again. I tried to get out of my brother’s grip and I immediately struck the knife blow," added Ahmed. The emergency services were unable to save the victim, who was hit in the heart.

According to the detainee, it was an accident. A version that was contradicted by eyewitnesses to the scene. According to them, Ahmed had gone to get the knife to stab his brother, Aymen.

For their part, Mes Jeanne-Pierrine Hanssen and Jean-Louis Gilissen pleaded for involuntary manslaughter, provocation and a suspended sentence.
