Far-Right Pundit Eric Zemmour Faces Trial for Alleged Hate Speech Against Migrant Minors

Eric Zemmour’s trial will open on Wednesday, September 8 before the Paris Criminal Court. The League of Human Rights and several associations and local authorities had filed a complaint following the journalist’s remarks on migrant minors. For its part, the Paris prosecutor’s office had summoned him to appear for "incitement to discrimination" and "racial insults".
In a message posted on the website of the League of Human Rights (LDH), lawyer Arié Alimi reviewed the remarks that journalist Eric Zemmour had made on September 29, 2020, during a debate on the show "Face à l’info", dedicated to the issue of unaccompanied minors. "They are thieves, they are murderers, they are rapists. That’s all they are. They have to be sent back, he had affirmed the columnist. Wait, they don’t even have to come!" "You have to understand that these people cost us money and, in addition, are mostly delinquents, thieves, etc. from Morocco and Pakistan and Chechnya, I think," he had added.
For the LDH, these remarks "constitute the offense of public insult based on origin". "The LDH filed a complaint by mail dated October 1, 2020. [...] It has joined the civil party," Arié Alimi said, specifying that the case is coming to trial on September 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the 17th criminal chamber of the Paris judicial court.
