Far-Right Group ’Génération Identitaire’ Under Investigation for Hate Speech in France

Things seem to be getting complicated for Génération identitaire. The public prosecutor of Saint-Gaudens, Christophe Amunzateguy, has just opened an investigation against the movement for public incitement to hatred or violence.
This investigation is justified by "the statements made on this banner very clearly anti-immigration and above all the reason why this banner was deployed," said Mr. Amunzateguy. It has been entrusted to the gendarmerie brigade of Saint-Gaudens, reports the AFP. For its part, the association Touche pas à mon pote has also filed a complaint.
The PCF of the Plateau de Lannemezan and the valleys and other organizations are considering, for their part, organizing an anti-fascist march "No pasaran", Friday, January 29 at 11 a.m., at the Col du Portillon. "The Génération identitaire groupuscule has just come last week to defile the memory of these refugees and these guerrillas by daring from this symbolic col to attempt a communication operation based on hatred of the other and the stigmatization of migrants. [...] It is high time to block the way for the fascists and hatred," they hammer in a press release.
Thirty Génération identitaire activists had patrolled, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, along the Franco-Spanish border, in order to track down any migrants who might pass through there.
