Far-Right French Politician Sparks Outrage with Anti-Arab Muslim Comments on TV

Saturday 8 February 2020, by Sylvanus

Invited to Morandini’s show on CNews on Monday, February 3, Julien Odoul, an elected member of the Rassemblement national, made racist remarks against Arab-Muslims in France. These remarks quickly provoked the reaction of SOS Racisme, which "plans to take legal action."

"There is a problem of integration of French people of Arab-Muslim origin in our country; I’m not even talking about assimilation. [...] The French of Arab-Muslim origin [...] are not part of the French community." This is how the RN elected official, Julien Odoul, expressed himself in front of Morandini on CNews.

"In a context of incitement to racial hatred and discrimination against Arab-Muslims in France, we are appalled to see that such remarks can still go unnoticed," denounces SOS Racisme, which plans to take legal action through its lawyers.

"We also report these remarks to the CSA so that these racist characters finally see their media impunity stopped and that the television channels stop inviting them with great fanfare," it says. For the organization, fighting the Rassemblement national is fighting racism and anti-Semitism, because this is their stock in trade.

"However, the fact that its members no longer even bother to hide their visceral hatred of Arabs and Muslims must make us collectively question in order to counter this dangerous dynamic and so that everyone is treated with equal dignity," observes SOS Racisme. It calls on the public authorities to take responsibility so as not to play the game of the far-right by making them legitimate interlocutors.
