Family Sues Colruyt Supermarket After Employee Dies from COVID-19

Mohammed Nahi, 32, an employee of the Colruyt store in Forest, died from covid-19. His family filed a complaint with the Brussels public prosecutor’s office against the company.
According to the lawyer of the victim’s relatives, Abdelhadi Amrani, the young man’s family accuses the company of not having sufficiently protected its staff, reports Belga. Tested positive for covid-19, the young man died in early April, leaving behind a wife and two children.
His brother-in-law stated that the manager of the Colruyt supermarket in Forest had not allowed Mohammed to wear a protective mask or gloves at work. Yet the victim attached importance to respecting barrier gestures.
He also said that more than 50% of the staff of this store had been placed in home quarantine after Mohammed was declared positive for the coronavirus. The Colruyt group denied these allegations. Including those of the family. "Since the start of the coronavirus epidemic, we have always strictly followed the government’s recommendations. There has never been a ban on wearing a face mask for our store employees," the company defended itself.
And to add: "We have tried several times to contact the family and offered them psychological support from our medical service [...] However, the family did not respond to this request."
For now, an investigation is underway to elucidate this case.
