Fact Check: Claims of ’100% Halal’ Slaughterhouses in Île-de-France Debunked

The allegations made by surgeon and columnist Laurent Alexandre about the slaughterhouses in Île-de-France are false and erroneous. He had claimed that there are 100% halal slaughterhouses in this region of France, while halal does not represent the majority of slaughtering at the national level.
It was on his Twitter account that surgeon and columnist Laurent Alexandre made these claims. He added a "hard" video, according to him, to his post. This video indeed shows a ritual slaughter. Désintox, a segment of the 28 Minutes program on Arte, which verified this information, concluded that it was fake news. Elisabeth Quin, its presenter, deconstructed this misinformation.
First, the filming location of this video is not a region of France. The slaughtered animal is a zebu, which is not found in Île-de-France or the rest of France, the same source reports. Furthermore, 100% of the slaughterhouses in the region are not halal. Since there is a pork slaughterhouse, and there are only a handful of slaughterhouses left in Île-de-France.
Moreover, it is the ritual and traditional slaughters that are practiced in Île-de-France. Out of the 28 poultry slaughterhouses in Île-de-France, only about half have an exemption to perform ritual slaughters, it is indicated.
