Executive Sentenced to 5 Years for Fatal Crash That Killed Two Young Girls in France

A business executive was sentenced to 5 years in prison, 3 of which were firm, for involuntary manslaughter and involuntary injury at the Laon (Aisne) Correctional Court. His sentence is accompanied by an immediate arrest warrant and a 5-year ban on driving.
Two 3-year-old and 26-month-old girls died in this accident on a violent storm night in April 2018. On board a minivan with their mother, these children did not survive the collision between the two vehicles.
At the hearing, the lawyer for the civil party had questioned the speed of the reckless driver, reports L’indépendant. The report of the latest judicial expertise showed that the defendant’s used Maserati was traveling at 113 km/h, on a road limited to 80 km/h due to the rain, reports the same source.
At the stand, the defendant denied any passion for speed. He even said he did not remember the accident. To justify his loss of control, he had mentioned a slope break at the site of the accident: "the storm was very important, it seems to me that my car went over this vein of water. This is a phenomenon that exists and is known," he tried to justify.
The sentence is considered too excessive by his lawyer Gérard Chemla. He announced an appeal, indicates the same media.
