Elderly Pedestrian Fatally Struck at Crosswalk in Loire Town, Community Mourns

Fatima Bayour, a 73-year-old Moroccan woman residing in Bourg-Argental for several years, eventually succumbed to her injuries after being hit by a car on May 30th while crossing rue de la République, on the pedestrian crossing located in front of the Post Office.
This tragedy has shaken this rural commune in the Loire where the victim spent a good part of her life and was well-known to the residents. Of Moroccan origin, Fatima settled in Bourg-Argental with her husband Driss, who passed away in 2008. The couple had four children: Hanane, Faïza, Adil and Imad, according to Le Progrès.
The septuagenarian used the crossing in front of the Post Office at least twice a day to go to her garden where she grew vegetables and flowers. Very involved, Fatima participated in the activities of the Espace Déôme and the association La Croisée des Fils of which she was a member, sharing her Moroccan culinary specialties with her friends.
Fatima’s body was repatriated to Morocco where she was buried next to her husband. On Wednesday, her family will organize a ceremony at the Jacques-Estérel hall to allow all those who knew and loved her to pay a final tribute.
