Elderly Montpellier Man Finds Squatters in Home After Morocco Trip

An 88-year-old man, living in the Place des Charmilles, in the Cévennes district of Montpellier, made a rather strange discovery upon his return from a trip to Morocco.
After spending four months in Morocco, the octogenarian was unable to access his apartment and had to sleep at a neighbor’s. The lock had been changed without his knowledge. He notifies the syndic who sends a locksmith to the premises the next day, reports Midi Libre. The latter manages to open the door. To their great surprise, they discover inside, two Algerians sleeping. One of them is 21 years old. He is in an irregular situation in France. The Toulouse court had in the meantime issued a ban on entering French territory against him for a period of three years. Aged 20, the second is subject to an obligation to leave the national territory last May pronounced by the prefecture of Rouen, with a residence assignment in Seine-Maritime.
The two persons concerned were placed in police custody. During their hearing, they explained that they had been renting the premises for two days from a man they had met at Plan Cabane. On Thursday, they were brought before the Montpellier public prosecutor’s office. Their immediate appearance was scheduled for this Friday afternoon.
