Elderly French Couple Stranded in Morocco Amid COVID-19 Lockdown

Arrived in early February in Morocco, Pierrette and Gérard, 75 years old, from Gournay-en-Bray, in Seine-Maritime, find themselves confined in their motorhome in Agadir. Without information on a possible repatriation, they can only hope for the country’s deconfinement to return to France.

On their arrival in Morocco, the two septuagenarians visited the south of the country, before heading back to Agadir and the International campsite, where they parked their 15-square-meter vehicle, reports France Bleu. "It was a few days before the start of confinement on March 16. It has now been more than two months since we have been here," Pierrette specifies.

It is difficult for them to leave Morocco. The septuagenarian is desperate and laments. "I pay 300 euros in rent per month to be inactive, to see nothing around me. The shops are closed and the circulation is limited," laments Pierrette.

According to the Gournaisienne, a few ferry tickets are offered to France or Spain, but they would already be booked or overpriced. "Some, in the same situation as us, are having difficulties, the price of a return sometimes goes up to 800 euros and they still don’t have an answer, they are still there, she explains. I don’t want to pay for nothing."

Although she launches appeals to the authorities to get information on a possible repatriation, she will receive no response. "We feel abandoned. Do we have to stay there for several more months? We don’t know, we have no information, neither from the French authorities nor from the Moroccan authorities," deplores Pierrette. "We have family waiting for us. We don’t know anything."
