In Brussels, the Ecolo party has confirmed the appointment of Councilor Mariam El Hamidine, of Moroccan origin, already acting mayor, as a candidate for mayor of Forest.
This nomination took place during the General Assembly of the Forest section of the party to ensure the succession of Stéphane Roberti, who resigned for health reasons.
"In order to ensure the continuation of this work, the Forest Greens have decided to trust the one who for the past year and a half has already been dynamically assuming the role of acting mayor: Mariam El Hamidine," says a statement from the party on Wednesday evening.
The Moroccan also commented on this confirmation by her party: "By being both a woman and a descendant of diversity, a French mother, a Moroccan father and a Belgian grandmother, and now at the head of a Brussels municipality, I want to show women and girls in all our neighborhoods that we can also be at the forefront of building a greener and more solidary society".
