Earthquake Aid: Only 22% of French Show Solidarity with Morocco, Survey Finds

According to a survey conducted by IFOP, in collaboration with L’Express, only 22% of the French people surveyed have expressed or plan to express their solidarity with the victims of the violent and deadly earthquake that struck the Al Haouz province on September 8.
In detail, left-wing party supporters (35%) are the most numerous to show or want to show their solidarity with the Moroccan earthquake victims. They are followed by Parisians (27%), the survey reveals, indicating that young people aged 18-24 (32%) and the working classes (25%) also plan or have already shown their generosity towards the victims.
By comparison, 32% of the French had expressed their solidarity after the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, it is noted, noting that the current context of high inflation in France could explain this low wave of solidarity towards the Moroccans.
56% of people admitted to having considered making a donation to the Moroccan victims after the dissemination of images, photos and videos of the damage from the disasters and the distress of the victims. Others were prompted to give after calls for donations launched by associations and charitable organizations. For others still, it is their cultural and emotional proximity to Morocco that has given them the desire to give.
Conducted by IFOP, the survey was carried out between September 19 and 20, 2023 among a sample of 1003 people, using the quota method. The respondents answered an online questionnaire.
