Drug Trafficking Brothers Appeal Heavy Sentences in Dreux Case

While they have been sentenced to heavy sentences for drug trafficking, the two Ferman brothers appealed, last Friday, July 5, before the Specialized Inter-Regional Court (JIRS) of Rennes, bringing new evidence to the hearing to prove their innocence.
Originally from Dreux, Nordine and Redwan Ferman are well-known drug dealers to the justice system. Their last conviction dates back to September 2018.
The elder, Nordine, 38, who was on parole at the time, still does not admit the facts and is asking for an acquittal. He is suspected of being "Maradona," who would be the sponsor of the trafficking. For his part, Redwan, the youngest, 34, who already has 28 convictions on his criminal record, does not deny the facts, but wishes a reduction in his sentence. L’Echo républicain, who is following this case, reports that he "admits his participation in a large-scale cannabis trafficking that controlled a very profitable point of sale in the Bergeronnettes district of Dreux."
To get out of this, the two brothers do not skimp on the means and hire the big names of the bar. Their lawyers "plead on the approximations and the interpretations to the detriment of the investigation file", bringing in particular to the hearing a testimony that was not taken into account during the first hearing, as well as excerpts from telephone conversations that were not retained and which would prove the innocence of the defendants, notes the same source.
In this case, 22 other people are also convicted of drug trafficking. The Ferman brothers face up to 20 years in prison. The public prosecutor does not back down, claiming that the new elements brought do not "suffice" to undermine the judge of instruction’s investigation. And to affirm that "we were dealing with a thriving business that was in the process of setting up a new channel, with Morocco," reports the media, which notes that the Court’s decision is expected on September 6.
