Drug Smuggling Ring Busted: 140kg of Moroccan Cannabis Seized at French Border

The Bayonne criminal court sentenced two individuals suspected of having imported drugs from Morocco to 3 years in prison.
The arrest of the suspects follows a customs check on August 11 in Biriatou, reports Sud-Ouest, noting that the agents intercepted a vehicle with three people on board who were returning from Morocco and had Germany as their final destination.
Searches led to the discovery of 140 kg of cannabis imported from Morocco. The drugs were hidden in the spare tire, the doors, the bumper, the chassis... In short, in "all the natural cavities of the car," said Dominique Rossignol, the president of the court.
After the preliminary investigations, two of the three men appeared before the Bayonne court. At the bar, only the one who was driving the vehicle at the time of the interception by the customs officers admitted the facts. The other denied being aware of the "meticulous loading of cannabis."
Prosecuted for drug trafficking with importation, the two individuals were sentenced to 3 years in prison, including one year suspended, with a fine of 289,000 euros. A "severe sentence" for those who are "just kids," the defense denounced.
