Domestic Violence Escalates: Husband's 67 Calls and Threats Lead to Suspended Sentence in Versailles

Mohamed B., a 33-year-old cleaning agent, was sentenced this Tuesday by the Versailles criminal court to two years’ suspended imprisonment for malicious calls and violence against his wife.

Cleaning agent in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Mohamed was arrested by the Élancourt police during the night of Saturday, August 23 to Sunday, August 24, after his wife, a home helper in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, alerted the police. The defendant tried to call his wife on the phone 67 times between 5:07 pm and 12:17 am. At 7:26 pm, he sent her a threatening SMS: "I swear, this day is a black day for you." His wife and their three daughters aged 14, 17 and 20 had gone to have dinner at a friend’s house. On their return, the violent husband attacks his wife. "You’re coming back at this time? You go out at night without warning, you dirty pu*?" he yells at her, grabbing her by the throat.

"The scene took place in front of the three daughters. One of them, aged 17, also suffered violence, as she intervened to protect her mother. She kicked her stepfather and threatened him with an iron," details the president of the court. Since their marriage in Morocco in 2023, the woman has suffered verbal and physical abuse, relays Le Parisien. During their statements at the police station, the daughters said their stepfather had tried to strangle their mother and threatened her with a knife. But they refused to file a complaint.

At the bar this Tuesday, one of the daughters goes back on her statements, claiming that the defendant had threatened her mother with a "butter knife" and not a kitchen knife. The wife also claims that her husband did not try to strangle her, but simply grabbed her t-shirt to invite her to a "discussion away from the children". For his part, Mohamed tries to justify himself: "She was absent between 2 pm and midnight. I had no news and I was very worried. I was also anxious because she doesn’t drive well and she’s already had two accidents."

"I love my wife. I was very angry, it’s true. So I said some pretty harsh words. But pu*, I don’t think so," he said, sobbing, his hand on his heart. And he added: "I didn’t know that calling like that several times was an offense." His wife, also in tears, explains to the court that insults are their daily life: "He insults me. I insult him too. We’re used to it. In our couple, it’s normal." "In that case, if everything is fine for you, why did you call the police in the middle of the night?" asks the president. Finally, Mohamed was sentenced to two years’ suspended imprisonment.
