Domestic Violence Case Near Valenciennes: Moroccan Man Sentenced to 8 Months in Prison

Found guilty of domestic violence, a Moroccan residing in Douchy-les-Mines, near Valenciennes, was sentenced to eight months in prison. Following an altercation, his wife had filed a complaint against him.

A 43-year-old Moroccan, a butcher by profession, was presented in immediate appearance before the court for an act of violence against his partner, whom he married in 2008 (religious marriage), which took place on January 5 at his wife’s home, in the presence of their 13-year-old son. The Moroccan expatriate "would have given a slap, pulled the hair, knocked her to the ground and beaten her, would have tried to strangle her and insulted her," reports La Voix du Nord. The origin of this altercation was a simple request: "she would have asked him for money, he would have refused; she would have helped herself in his pocket."

The abused woman filed a complaint against her husband. According to the testimony of the 13-year-old son, the defendant had been exerting violence on his mother since the early years of marriage. In 2014, he had even received two months suspended sentence for domestic violence. He is described as a "rather unreliable, psychorigid man" by the psychologist expert who had met him.
