Divorce at 500,000 dirhams: The Larache court imposes a financial ultimatum on the husband

The judgment rendered at the end of November sets a clear ultimatum for the applicant. For his divorce to be recorded, the husband must necessarily deposit the total sum of 516,000 dirhams with the court registry. The justice system warns that any refusal to pay this amount will be legally interpreted as a waiver of the procedure, de facto canceling the separation request and maintaining the marriage bond.

The detailed bill from the court of first instance weighs heavily on the husband’s finances, indicates Rue20. The lion’s share goes to the wife in the form of a consolation gift (Mout’a), set at 500,000 dirhams. To this amount are added 4,000 dirhams for housing during the period of widowhood, as well as the maintenance of the two children. The data in the file quantify this support at 12,000 dirhams for the transitional period, the total pensions for the children reaching 16,500 dirhams according to the additional elements.

This decision comes after the failure of all mediation attempts. The husband had initiated the procedure last September, citing the impossibility of continuing the common life after ten years of union. Noting the irreparable breakdown of the relationship during two unsuccessful conciliation hearings, the judge applied Articles 83 and 94 of the Family Code to seal the family’s financial rights before pronouncing the final breakup.
