Dissolved French Muslim Rights Group Offered Base in Washington by US Islamic Organization

Saturday 5 December 2020, by Sylvanus

The Collective Against Islamophobia in France (CCIF) dissolved on Wednesday, December 2 in France has the possibility of setting up in the United States to continue its activities. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has just offered it offices in Washington.

In a statement, CAIR announces that it has offered "offices" in its Washington headquarters as well as "logistical resources" to the CCIF dissolved by the Council of Ministers after it pronounced its own dissolution, reports Saphirnews. The collective accused of "Islamist propaganda" by the French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, could thus settle in the United States. The CCIF has not yet confirmed the information.

"The dissolution of the CCIF is not based on any legal basis and creates a dangerous precedent. In substance, the French government bizarrely thinks that criticizing its Islamophobic policy is, in itself, an incitement to terrorism," comments Nihad Awad, executive director of CAIR. For him, targeting human rights organizations like the CCIF - at the expense of the rule of law - is just the tip of the iceberg. He accuses the French government of wanting to criminalize and dissolve any organization that disapproves of its plan to control Muslims.

"In less than three months, the French government has enacted a series of anti-Muslim measures violating the religious freedom rights of French Muslims," notes the American organization. It denounces in particular the "massive action" recently launched against 76 mosques suspected of separatism.

For CAIR, the government of Jean Castex, which claims to value freedom of expression, has created a double standard policy by distinguishing French Muslims and questioning their legitimacy as French citizens.
