Disney+ Series Spotlights 1986 Police Killing of French Student Malik Oussekine

More than 35 years after the assassination of Malik Oussekine, the facts have inspired filmmakers who, through a film and a series, want to denounce police violence and racism still relevant in France and other countries around the world.
Since Wednesday, May 11, a major mini-series is being broadcast on the Disney+ streaming platform. Titled "Oussekine", it is the tragic story of Malik Oussekine, a 22-year-old student killed by police on the night of December 5 to 6, 1986 in Paris. This was in the context of the various protests led by students against the Devaquet university reform project, named after the Minister of Higher Education at the time.
The mini-series Oussekine was directed by Antoine Chevrollier, the same person who directed Baron Noir and The Bureau of Legends. The series traces the long and moving struggle of the young Algerian’s family to shed light and justice on this affair of state. On screen, we discover Sayyid El Alami, who plays Malik Oussekine, as well as Slimane Dazi, in the role of the father, and Hiam Abbas, in that of the mother.
In parallel to the mini-series, the film Nos Frangins directed by Rachid Bouchareb will be presented in preview at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
