Diesel Prices Drop 20 Cents per Liter in Morocco

Fuel prices, particularly diesel, continue to fall in Morocco. This will lighten the bill for motorists.
The decrease concerns the price of the liter of diesel, with a decrease of 20 cents, specifies to Hespress a professional source responsible within the National Federation of Owners, Merchants and Managers of Service Stations in Morocco. She says that "the application of this drop by the companies active in the sector varies depending on the stocks of each company and distributor. Some have applied this new rate from Monday, while others have waited until Tuesday morning to implement it".
"The drop in the price of the liter of diesel concerns all regions and areas of the kingdom," confirms another professional source, operating at a service station in Rabat. Gasoline prices have remained "stable" after an increase of 10 cents at the beginning of December 2024. According to the explanations of this source, the differences that citizens could observe in the final prices are due to the variations of impact depending on the geographical distance, the commercial strategies of each fuel distribution company and the actors in the sector’s value chain, as well as the commercial policy and own stocks of each station.
According to a study carried out by the site on price developments since the summer of 2024, diesel and gasoline prices have experienced a series of five consecutive declines, followed by a slight increase, before a new increase in early December, estimated at 20 cents for diesel and 10 cents for gasoline. The alliance of oil-producing countries has also published a statement on price developments. OPEC+ members, including Saudi Arabia and Russia, "will extend their additional voluntary adjustments of 2.2 million barrels per day until the end of March 2025," it announced.
The organization "had already specified on several occasions that the prices of diesel and premium gasoline are not determined by the will or desire of the station owners, who have no role in the price-setting process, which is entirely controlled by the distribution companies," commented Jamal Zrikem, president of the National Union of Fuel Owners, Managers and Merchants in Morocco. And to add: "Increases in fuel prices primarily and significantly affect the owner of the service station himself, who is forced to invest more to buy fuels, without his income increasing accordingly. On the contrary, they can decrease due to these increases, taxes and other factors".
