Diamond Heist Trial Resumes: $40 Million Airport Robbery Case Back in Brussels Court

Since Monday, the Brussels Court of Appeal is trying four individuals accused of having participated in the famous robbery of a plane carrying diamonds at Brussels-National Airport in 2013. The defendants, including Houssein B., are accused of having stolen 121 packages containing diamonds, gold bars and precious stones for a total of 37 million euros.
The facts date back to February 18, 2013, when eight masked and armed individuals disembarked on the tarmac of Brussels airport and approached a Swiss airline plane, which was transporting a valuable cargo escorted by the security company Brink’s. Despite their arrest and trial before the Brussels Court of First Instance, all the accused were acquitted for lack of evidence. The public prosecutor’s office, however, appealed,
