Cyclist Killed in Lamborghini Hit-and-Run; Unlicensed Driver Surrenders in Avignon

Rachid, a 51-year-old man cycling in Avignon, died after being hit by a Lamborghini. The suspect is a 25-year-old man whose license had been suspended. An investigation is underway to shed light on this accident.
The accident occurred on a highway in Avignon on Sunday, September 1st. While cycling, Rachid, a maintenance worker at a high school in Avignon, was fatally mowed down by a hit-and-run driver in a Lamborghini. The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, and his passenger immediately fled on foot, reports BFMTV. But the police did not need to search for the driver. His father took him to the Avignon police station.
The young man is known to the police. Even though his license had been suspended, he was able to rent the sports car on the Internet. This raises the incomprehension of the victim’s relatives. "They lend a Lamborghini like they lend a bicycle. The car was rented on Snapchat, so that means you type on the Internet: ’I want a Lamborghini’ [...] Suspended license and he was able to take the car. Is that normal?" fumes Karima, the victim’s sister. She is still in shock: "They returned our cousin’s body in critical condition. It was so critical that the funeral washing could not be done."
The public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for "involuntary manslaughter by a motor vehicle driver," "hit-and-run offenses," "driving without a license," "unintentional injuries" and failure to provide assistance. Pending the conclusions of the investigation, the suspect has been taken into custody.
