Controversy Erupts as Moroccan Mobile Consulate in Spanish Town Sparks Safety Concerns

The mayor of Utebo (Saragossa), Gema Gutiérrez, is threatened with dismissal by the eight opposition councilors for her "poor management", "lack of planning" and "violation of the health protocol" in the context of the installation of a Moroccan mobile consulate.

The opposition councilors will demand the dismissal of the mayor in the ordinary session this Thursday, who, by municipal decree, authorized the installation of a mobile consulate requested by the Moroccan consulate on March 19 and 20, "without taking any security measures". For Marigel Larraz, spokesperson for the PP in Utebo, this is a sign of "poor management", because according to him, the mayor should have "requested human and material resources from the Moroccan consulate to ensure the safety of people and the cleaning of the premises".

Due to the massive influx of these people, estimated at nearly 4,000, in the municipality of Utebo, the local police had to ensure security with the support of civil protection volunteers. "The municipal council does not have to bear all these expenses for an activity that generates no benefit for the city," denounced the PP leader, recalling that "Utebo is an open, supportive municipality and willing to host any event, but with minimal organization and safety and security measures".

For his part, the Ciudadanos spokesperson, Mario Pérez, deplored the non-compliance with the health protocol. In the same vein, the Vox spokesperson, Isabel Calzada, is surprised that the mayor authorized the installation of this mobile consulate without any respect for health measures, knowing well that "citizens are received by appointment at the town hall to comply with the health protocol".

Thus, the councilors blame the mayor for her "lack of responsibility" as the "highest authority of the municipality", who has the power to authorize or prohibit an activity and the duty to ensure compliance with a minimum of requirements.
