Controversial Scholar Ahmed Raissouni Cuts Ties with International Muslim Organization

After resigning from the presidency of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), Ahmed Raissouni announced his definitive withdrawal from the organization.
"I have definitively withdrawn from the Union, my membership in it has ended and I have no organizational relationship with it," Ahmed Raissouni announced in a statement, stressing that he leaves the door open to brotherhood, personal relationships and cooperation in righteousness and piety. This resignation and definitive withdrawal from the IUMS are the consequences of the fiery statement made by the man on the Sahara and the Maghreb, which caused a wave of outrage in Algeria and Mauritania.
Ahmed Raissouni had previously stated in a video interview that "Morocco should return to what it was before the European invasion, and that the Sahara issue is a colonial issue", expressing his regret for the involvement of Arab and Islamic countries in supporting and adopting this colonial heritage.
He also stated that "the resolution of the Sahara issue must be based on the Moroccan people who are ready to wage jihad and mobilize as they did during the Green March to annihilate the hopes of those who intend to separate the Sahara from Morocco".
