Controversial Rapper Médine Sparks Political Clash with Far-Right Party in France

Rapper Médine is once again at the center of a controversy after his concert on Saturday in Agen (Lot-et-Garonne). A performance that local elected officials of the Rassemblement national (RN) had tried to prevent.
"The threats of the Islamist rapper Médine against two of our elected officials, Edwige Diaz and Julie Rechagneux, are an infamy. This is a real call for violence and hatred! Justice must now take up this matter as soon as possible to condemn these ignominies," Marine Le Pen tweeted on Monday, condemning Médine’s attitude during this concert in Agen (Lot-et-Garonne). The performer of "Don’t Laïk," released in 2015, or "Jihad," in 2005, has a long and conflictual history with Marine Le Pen’s party, reports Le Parisien.
The two RN elected officials concerned also reacted to this provocation by the rapper. "In Agen, the rapper Médine offered a ’piñata’ with my face and that of @diaz_edwige to his audience. According to @sudouest, the audience then ’took care of it’. We will not let this matter go without consequences," wrote RN regional councilor Julie Rechagneux on her Twitter account.
The reasons for this attitude of the rapper during his concert in Agen are to be found in a press release from the local RN published last week, in which the far-right party expressed its opposition to Médine’s visit to the Lot-et-Garonne department. Médine is no stranger to politics. In February 2021, he had filed a complaint for defamation in the Paris judicial court against LREM deputy Aurore Bergé, who had described him as an "Islamist rapper".
