Construction Begins on $16 Million Mosque in Metz, France

The large mosque of Metz, whose construction work was launched this Saturday, will soon be a reality in Moselle, France. Its realization would require an envelope of 15 million euros.

According to actu.fr, this solemn act marks a first concrete evolution of a project that has its roots in the early 2010s, a year before the creation of the Union of Metz Worship Associations (UACM). According to the explanations of its first president, Djamila El Brahmi, act 1 of the mosque took place in October 2013 with the purchase of the land, the lease of which was signed in 2014.

If, at the end of her explanations, we note that all the papers of the plot are up to date, the other equation to be solved is the mobilization of the 15 million euros for its construction. "It will take about two years to gather this sum and thus finalize the start of the work. We want to bring together the largest number," announced the president of the Association.

This mosque, which will be built on 5,500 m², could eventually accommodate up to 2,000 worshippers, including 1,500 men and 500 women, says the president, who justifies this gap by the fact that the presence of men in the mosque is mandatory, while that of women is optional in their worship.

In addition to the mosque, the construction of a library, an exhibition hall, a sports hall or even a wellness area is also planned. In addition, Arabic language learning workshops could be offered to the public. In short, the mosque could become a real place of life for the faithful. The gardens of the mosque will be inspired by those of the Alhambra, in Granada (Spain).
