Comedy Star's Street Altercation Sparks Legal Drama

The comedian and actress Nawell Madani has been summoned before the French justice system for an "alternative measure" to a trial for hitting a six-year-old child in the middle of the street in Paris, who simply wanted to "take a photo with her".

The French justice system wants to avoid a trial for Nawell Madani. The comedian has been summoned before a prosecutor’s delegate for a "civic contribution" for "violence against a minor under 15 years of age resulting in incapacity for work not exceeding eight days", as specified by the Paris prosecutor’s office. She will have to pay a civic contribution to a victim support association. The amount of this contribution is set by the prosecutor based on the seriousness of the facts, the resources and the charges of the perpetrator. The maximum amount is 3,000 euros, it is specified.

Nawell Madani had presented herself to the police on Monday after hitting a child, in "a reflex of defense against a situation" perceived as "dangerous", as her lawyer Caroline Toby had reported. The comedian had "explained that she had been approached by children, had been afraid of a theft and had struck a child", anticipating that "a complaint would surely be filed in this sense, which was indeed the case afterwards", reported the public prosecutor’s office.

The child "was recognized as having a total work incapacity of three days", the prosecutor’s office said. The actress’s lawyer assures that her client is "deeply affected by what happened and wants to express all her sadness towards the child and his family". For Toby, this case did not deserve a trial. She adds: "The prosecutor’s office shares this analysis since Ms. Madani is summoned for an alternative measure that will allow proportional reparation for the facts".
