Comedian Yassine Belattar Sentenced for Threats Against Entertainment Figures

Indicted in March 2019 for death threats and crimes, Moroccan-origin comedian and polemicist Yassine Belattar was sentenced on Monday to four months in prison with a suspended sentence by the Paris Criminal Court.
Yassine Belattar was being prosecuted for death threats, repeated threats of crimes, repeated sending of malicious messages and moral harassment targeting several personalities related to the world of entertainment. Indicted in March 2019, the host had been suspended from the show Les 30 glorieuses that he had been hosting on Radio Nova since 2016. On Monday, the Paris Criminal Court sentenced him to four months in prison with a suspended sentence and 500 euros in damages to actor Kévin Razy.
The comedian was also ordered to pay a symbolic one euro to screenwriter and director Kader Aoun, to whom he had made death threats and threats of crimes "established and objectified." On the other hand, he was acquitted of the death threats against David Weisbrod, Kader Aoun’s production manager. The court also issued an order prohibiting the accused from speaking to the victims and the obligation to undergo care.
The polemicist had been appointed in 2018 by French President Emmanuel Macron to the Presidential Council of Cities, tasked with conducting reflections on priority neighborhoods. He was also the first comedian to return to the stage at the Bataclan after the November 13, 2015 attacks.
