Comedian Yassine Belattar Challenges Moroccan King’s Views in Heated French TV Debate
Wednesday 20 March 2019, by
During a show on the CNews channel, confronting the polemicist Eric Zemmour, Yassine Belattar (a comedian, to recall) did not hesitate to contradict statements by King Hassan II to defend his positions.
On March 19, the debate on the show "L’heure des pros" was on the topic: "What does it mean to be French today". And two guests perfectly suited to add some spice to the debate, namely Eric Zemmour and Yassine Belattar. The former is a writer and polemicist, and the latter a comedian known for speaking out quite often on racism and not hesitating to create and fuel many controversies. "Two children of France who seem to be worlds apart"...
Lively exchanges took place from the very first minutes, essentially revolving around the ability (and reality) to have two countries. At one point, Eric Zemmour asked: "In the 1980s, there was your king, well Hassan II, the father of your current king, he said ’my Moroccans will never be French’, was he wrong?" To which Belattar replied: "I am not one of the most exemplary Moroccans. I am proud to prove the King of Morocco wrong on this stage by affirming that I am French."
Let us recall that Belattar resigned from LCI last month following an interview with Eric Zemmour on the channel. He had been doing a weekly column on the "Audrey & Co" show since September. The reason, statements by Zemmour who, as a guest of Christophe Jakubyszyn, declared: "We were told that Islam is a religion of peace and love, whereas we know that this anti-Semitism is the product of an Islamic culture that goes back a long way."
