Citroën’s Budget Electric Car ’Ami’ Marks First Year of Success, Outpacing Rivals

The Citroën Ami made in Morocco is blowing out its first candle. The French automaker savors the success of its low-cost electric quadricycle.
In total, 9,000 Amis were sold in Europe during its first year of existence, reports Largus. The microcar manufactured in the Kenitra plant in Morocco owes its success to its performance but above all to its low price. Ami has thus crushed its rival Renault Twizy, more expensive and less practical.
In terms of reliability, not everything is rosy. The manufacturer had even launched an "upgrade campaign" at the beginning of the year to correct its various defects: waterproofing, door closing, windshield wiper motor, electrical system and battery, underbody, braking system and handbrake sensor. Citroën was unable to correct all the defects. The various waterproofing issues remain and require additional efforts.
