Ceuta Seeks EU-Standard Border with Morocco, Says Government President

The President of the Government of Ceuta, Juan Vivas, said on Tuesday that strengthening the border with Morocco will be one of his priorities until the next elections in May 2023.
Vivas indicated that he wants a border with Morocco comparable "to any other in the EU", that is to say without exemption from a visa to enter Spanish territory. The official recalled that Ceuta was "on the brink of the abyss" after the closure of the borders for health reasons related to Covid-19 and the migration crisis of May 2021.
Today, the horizon is full "of illusion, hope and opportunities", said Vivas who is impatient to discover the Strategic Plan planned for Ceuta which he hopes will be "a serious, defined and quantified commitment to action by the State to improve its presence in the fields of Defense, Security, Justice, Education, Health or Social Services".
This document will be essential to define the border model of the city, enhance the vocational training offer, support strategic projects such as the construction of a new marina, engage in structuring reforms to facilitate the transition to a "more sustainable" economic model.
"The agreement concluded for the return of unaccompanied minors to other communities must be executed and applied," Vivas also insisted, calling for a "renewal of equipment, infrastructure and urban, environmental, cultural, sports and social services" of the city.
