Ceuta Border Reopening Stalls: No Cross-Border Workers Arrive on Expected Day

Phase 2 of the reopening of the border with Morocco was supposed to start this Tuesday with the passage of cross-border workers blocked in Ceuta since March 2020. But strangely, no movement was observed.
"They told us to be ready at seven o’clock, the usual time when cross-border workers pass, but we didn’t see anyone," one of the agents stationed at the Tarajal border told ABC.
The low turnout surprised many travelers. "I came early to avoid the influx that the passage of cross-border workers would create, but there is no one," declared a Spaniard residing in Tetouan who was going to Ceuta for tourism.
At least 150 cross-border workers with their visas were supposed to cross the border this Tuesday. The complexity of the administrative procedures would delay the return of these workers, most of whom are domestic workers.
