Casablanca Cracks Down on Illegal Parking Lots and Rogue Attendants

The Casablanca City Council is launching a large-scale operation next week to dismantle illegal parking lots, in order to put an end to the anarchy observed in the parking attendant sector.
The local authorities of the city of Casablanca have finally decided to take the measure of the situation. They will launch, starting next week, a large-scale operation to dismantle the illegal parking lots where attendants impose their law on motorists, particularly near tourist sites, shopping centers and other areas that experience strong pressure on parking spaces, reports the360.ma.
According to the newspaper Assabah, this decision follows the 250 complaints recorded at the Casablanca town hall in June 2019. A meeting was thus held to address the issue. It resulted in a recommendation that will be submitted to the elected officials who will legislate. It involves a census of all persons engaged in car guarding in the metropolis, legally or illegally. An exhaustive list of all the authorizations granted by the city authorities should also reach the City Council.
The same newspaper highlighted the social aspect behind the authorizations. Indeed, they are granted to widows or other eligible categories of people. But these low-income people barter these authorizations for political purposes. Based on this finding, the City Council intends to manage the parking attendant authorizations from now on. It will also look into the legality of the parking lots set up by the attendants.
