Carpenter Sentenced for Denying Internship to Muslim Teen in Vesoul Discrimination Case
Sunday 29 October 2023, by
In Vesoul, a man was sentenced to a prison term for making racist and discriminatory remarks against a young Muslim minor boy looking for an internship.
A carpenter caught up in his racist and discriminatory remarks made against a teenager from the Child Welfare Service in the company of an educator, in Pesmes, Haute-Saône, nearly two years ago. The young boy wanted to do an internship. On Thursday, during his hearing at the Vesoul court, he recounted the facts. "I asked him his name, he answered ’Mohammed’, that means what it means," the defendant said, before adding: "I don’t take Muslims."
Far from expressing remorse, the carpenter continues with insinuations, amalgams and nastiness, reports francebleu. Enough to surprise the people present in the room. The judge of the Vesoul court then feels obliged to interrupt him. "The court has understood your thought," he tells him. "I probably should have kept quiet, but it comes from the bottom of myself," concludes the defendant. "Detestable remarks," qualifies the prosecutor who demands a 2,000 euro fine against him.
