Cannabis Shortage Drives Prices to Record Highs in France

As a direct consequence of the closure of borders, Moroccan cannabis is becoming increasingly difficult to find in Europe, and in particular in France, resulting in a sharp rise in price.
The temporary closure of Morocco’s borders is not helping the dealers. It has led to the importation of cannabis from Morocco, via Spain, reports actu.fr.
According to the same source, cannabis consumers now pay 500€ for a hundred grams. Given the soaring prices, one of the customers even spent 600€, it is specified. On the market, the gram of cannabis is negotiated at two euros and the dealers take advantage of the halt in drug trafficking between Morocco and France, via Spain, as well as the strong demand, to sell the stocks at rates comparable to the distant time of prohibition.
During the day from Monday to Tuesday, three cannabis -as well as cocaine- consumers who had just bought products were arrested by the Montpellier public security police. These arrests made it possible to trace back to three alleged dealers -including a 16-year-old minor- in the Gély, Faubourg de Figuerolles and Aiguelongue neighborhoods.
Surprised by the unexpected arrival of the police, in Aiguelongue, in particular in a residence on Rue de Montasinos, the young dealer violently assaulted four police officers, in the stairwell, before managing to hide in an apartment from which he was dislodged by reinforcements. During the searches, the investigators of the departmental security and the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) seized several hundred grams of cocaine, resin and cannabis herb. In Faubourg Figuerolles, the BAC agents surprised buyers and dealers in the middle of a transaction, on Rue Ronsard, Place des Pléiades and Rue Adam de Craponne.
