Canada to Fill 1.4 Million Jobs by 2026, Targets Migrant Workers

The Government is calling on migrant workers to fill the labor shortage facing Quebec. In total, more than 1.4 million positions are to be filled for the 2017-2026 period.
More than 1.4 million jobs would need to be filled in Quebec over the 2017-2026 period, according to a recent report from the Canadian Ministry of Labor.
Two factors explain this labor shortage: the retirement of the baby boomer generation and the job creation that the region is experiencing over this period, specifies the same source.
Recognizing the situation, the Canadian government intends to direct 54% of the jobs to young people and 22% to migrant workers.
Two sectors are the most affected by this labor shortage: health and information technology.
In the health sector, Quebec wants to recruit pharmacists, general practitioners, nurses, psychiatric nurses, nursing assistants, caregivers and other health science technicians (except those involved in dental care).
In the information technology sector, the region is looking to recruit interactive media developers and programmers, analysts, computer consultants, engineers and software designers.
As for the agricultural sector, it is looking for workers, farm managers and specialists in food, beverage and related product processing.
In addition, heavy equipment mechanics, claims experts and writers, financial agents, industrial and manufacturing engineering technologists and technicians, electronic and electrical engineering technologists and technicians, as well as mechanical engineering technologists and technicians are also being sought.
