Campaign Urges French Cities to Honor African and Caribbean WWII Veterans with Street Names

Several personalities, association leaders and intellectuals have published an open letter to the mayors of France. They are asked to commit to renaming streets in tribute to the African and West Indian soldiers of the French army.
This action taken by these personalities comes after the call of the French Head of State, a month earlier, which went unheeded, observes France Tv Info.
Indeed, during the 75th anniversary of the Provence landings on August 15, 2019 in Saint-Raphaël, Emmanuel Macron had called for the renaming of streets in tribute to the African and West Indian soldiers of the French army who participated in the liberation of France.
Following the French President, these association leaders, intellectuals and personalities have taken the initiative to address an open letter to the mayors of France and the overseas territories, so that these 400,000 "great forgotten of history" are finally recognized.
Furthermore, the 160 signatories do not intend to stop there. They also plan to contact the 577 deputies of the National Assembly, so that local consultations can be held in each constituency, specifies the same source.
