Camaïeu Bankruptcy: Morocco Stores Face Uncertainty as French Retailer Shuts Down

The French brand Camaïeu, specialized in the sale of women’s clothing, was placed in judicial liquidation by the Lille commercial court on September 28, resulting in the closure of the 514 stores located in France. A situation that will not be without consequences on the four stores in Morocco.
It was on Saturday, October 1 that all the stores of the Camaïeu brand in France definitively closed their doors, a direct consequence of the Lille court’s decision. Around 2,600 people find themselves unemployed. In Morocco, the four stores of the French brand managed under franchise by "Ma Franchise Group", are already asking questions about the fate that will be reserved for them, reports Challenge.
Camaïeu is one of those many companies that have not been able to survive the health crisis. A cyber attack will exacerbate an already unsustainable financial situation for the French brand’s coffers. Despite all his efforts, Wilhelm Hubner, the group’s president, will not succeed in saving the furniture. Placed in receivership on August 1, the brand founded in 1984 has closed all of its stores in France. All eyes are on those abroad. There are around 300 scattered across Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Hungary, Italy, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Poland and Qatar.
In Morocco, the first Camaïeu sales point was inaugurated in December 2011, during the opening of the Morocco Mall. Three other stores will be born in Rabat (at the Mega Mall then in the Rabat Agdal district on Avenue Fal Ould Ommeir) and in Casablanca (Marina Shopping). For the moment, the group that manages the brand in Morocco indicates "not having visibility on what will happen since the judicial liquidation of the brand in France".
