Butcher Sentenced to 16 Years for Fatal Stabbing at Anderlecht Slaughterhouse

Rachid El Baydi, a man of Moroccan origin, was sentenced to 16 years in prison by the courts for having fatally stabbed his colleague Ismail Uriadde on May 7, 2022, in a butcher’s shop at the Anderlecht slaughterhouses.

Before the tragedy, a heated argument had broken out between the two men, captured by the surveillance cameras. The dispute escalated into a fight, during which El Baydi, armed with an 18-centimeter knife, struck Uriadde in the abdomen. He was arrested shortly afterwards in the parking lot of the butcher’s shop.

The investigation revealed that El Baydi was motivated by jealousy towards Uriadde, who had just joined the team but was already behaving like a boss by giving orders, while El Baydi had been working there for six years. This tension contributed to the escalation of the violence that led to the murder, the judges ruled.

The court described the act as "extremely serious", emphasizing the brutality of the blow inflicted by El Baydi with a meat knife, fatal for Uriadde. However, it considered three mitigating circumstances: the absence of a criminal record for El Baydi, his compliance with the conditions of his electronic tagging detention, and his professional integration. Despite the public prosecutor’s request for immediate arrest to avoid a risk of flight to Morocco, the court refused, recalling that El Baydi had complied with the terms of his prior detention.
