Brussels Suburb Honors Femicide Victim with Memorial Square Dedication

The municipality of Evere is preparing to pay tribute to Mounia Ouyahia, a Moroccan-origin mother tragically murdered in broad daylight two years ago. On May 30, 2023, marking the second anniversary of this femicide, the "Mounia Ouyahia Square" will be officially inaugurated.
The square, located at the intersection of the Avenue du Cimetière de Bruxelles and the Avenue Franz Guillaume, near the site of the tragedy, will now bear Mounia’s name. A strong symbolic act which, according to Ridouane Chahid, mayor of Evere, aims to perpetuate her memory and underline the importance of fighting violence against women.
The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for 2 p.m., will bring together the victim’s loved ones, municipal authorities and representatives of the local police.
In addition, an artwork dedicated to the victims of femicide is planned to adorn the center of the roundabout. The installation is scheduled for the end of the year.
